Персидский залив на периферии эллинистического мира
Регион Персидского залива характеризуется относительной изолированностью от внутриконтинентальных районов, что предопределило его единство в хозяйственно-культурном отношении и затрудняло прямой политический контроль над ним. Из-за сложных природных условий Селевкиды, как и Ахемениды, ограничились здесь установлением гарнизонов в стратегически важных пунктах для контроля над торговыми путями. Всего в регионе насчитывается около восьми селевкидских колоний, но не все из них поддаются локализации. Несмотря на вовлеченность в сферу эллинистического влияния, особенно заметное в керамике и в сфере денежного обращения, полноценной частью эллинистического мира данный регион так и не стал.
