Abstract: The present s tudy is devoted to the campaign of Crimean Khan Ğazı-Giray agains t Moscow in July 1591. The author describes the actions of the government of Tsar Fedor Ivanovitch in the field of organization of defense of the Capital City. The policy of Boris Godunov which aimed to attract people’s attention to his measures for protection of Moscow is thoroughly inves tigated in the context of rumors about the death of prince (tsarevitch) Dmitriy and the ‘treason’ of the Nagiye family. The author demons trates how Boris Godunov achieved these goals under the dynas tic crisis on the eve of ‘The Time of Troubles’ in Russia, rumors of his participation in the assassination of Dmitriy, accusations of organizing the Fire in Moscow in 1591 and the Crimean raid agains t the Russian Capital.
