The main part of the collection is the study of Fedor V. Shelov-Kovedyaev, devoted to the study of the genesis and early period of the history of the Bosporus - the most ancient state of the North-Eastern Black Sea region. The section "Messages" contains a number of publications on the problems of Russian medieval studies. The "Reviews" section analyzes new literature on Slavic paganism. The book concludes with a review of the work of the Sector for the History of the Earliest States on the Territory of the USSR in 1983.
