The current volume is dedicated to the memory of the eminent Russian historian and philologist Alexandr Vasiljevich Nazarenko. The majority of the articles deal with the history of Russian church and the ecclesiastical literature of Rus’, the problems that occupied the central place in his scientific interests in the last years of his life. Another complex of articles is connected with A.V. Nazarenko’s studies in international connections of Ancient Rus’, with Byzantium, England, Scandinavian countries. Social and political aspects of the history of Ancient Rus’ and neighbouring countries are discussed in a number of articles. The part Historiography includes a review and a survey of scientific work of the Swedish archaeologist Ingmar Jansson. The materials published in the volume will be of interest for specialists in the history of the Russian church and religion, Medieval history, as well as for students and teachers and for all interested in Russian and European Medieval history.
